Math is Ugly
Math is ugly.
There is a time and place for math. When we need brutal precision to define a system specifically, and speak about it universally. It prevents annoying supposition and vagueness from contaminating discourse. When we must stand on the ideology of platonic forms and emotionless representations of nature.
Its dryness has a place. A stark reminder that despite humanity’s rich uniqueness, and the private geography of our souls, at some point we must all agree on robust definitions.
But do not call math beautiful. Do not call it poetry, or song, or dance.
It is as ugly as it is necessary.
