Often, deciding whether to exploit (optimise on what you already have within an existing system) compared to exploring (building outside of the existing system) is one of the hardest decisions to make.
You’re point about finding salient ‘truths’ in order to find the right constraints which increase, rather than decrease creativity - was central to my last piece I wrote on a new ‘constraints led approach’ that is emerging in the sport for this reason.
